Hot summer days can be dangerous, especially for older adults and individuals with health concerns. As temperatures rise, it is important to stay cool, drink plenty of water, and avoid
strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Fans may help, but air conditioning provides the best protection during extreme heat.
Please take time to check on family members, friends, and neighbors. A brief phone call or visit can make a meaningful difference. Watch for signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, confusion, weakness, rapid heartbeat, or skin that feels unusually hot. Move the person to a cooler location, offer water if they are alert, and call 911 if symptoms are severe, the person becomes confused, loses consciousness, or does not improve quickly.
CHEER’s program (PASA) Personal Assistance Services provides supportive in-home services that help older adults remain safe, comfortable, and independent. PASA caregivers can assist with
personal care, light housekeeping, and other daily needs while also providing valuable companionship and an extra set of caring eyes.
During hot weather, staying connected is just as important as staying cool. Together, we can help ensure that no older adult faces extreme heat alone.
