Access to the businesses and services in our local communities is essential to the quality of life we all enjoy. The ability to get to a grocery store, pick up a prescription, or visit a friend is an important part of daily life.
For senior citizens who may no longer wish to drive, and particularly for those living in rural areas, convenient, affordable and accessible local transportation is often the difference between being able to continue living in their own home or having to move to a location where others determine the activities of your daily life. Transportation is independence.
CHEER Transportation provides the ability to live in your own home and participate in your own community. CHEER operates a fleet of handicapped accessible buses that provide local transportation for CHEER members to local stores, banks and post offices as well as to CHEER centers throughout Sussex County. CHEER buses also routinely go to special events throughout the community.
CHEER proudly offers personalized transportation to medical appointments through our compassionate network of dedicated volunteers. For many Sussex County seniors, this service is a lifeline, connecting them to essential healthcare and community support.
To ensure the safety and comfort of everyone involved, please note the following eligibility guidelines:
• You must be an active CHEER member with your membership paid in full, defined by participating in center events at least six times within the past 30 consecutive days.
• Volunteer rides are provided exclusively for medical appointments.
• While we strive to fulfill all requests, volunteer availability means we cannot guarantee means we cannot guarantee every ride.
• Riders should be fully ambulatory and able to enter and exit vehicles without assistance.
• For the safety of our volunteers and riders alike, participants must have no cognitive impairments.
