
Eligibility Requirements
1. Active Membership:
• The program is open to active CHEER members in good standing.
• “Active” is defined as having a current, paid CHEER membership and regularly participating in activities at one of CHEER’s Senior Centers (minimum: attendance at least twice per month).
2. Residency & Destination Limits:
• Member must reside in Sussex County, and all appointments must also be within Sussex County.
• Out-of-county or out-of-state trips are not eligible under this program.
Mobility Requirements
• Member must be ambulatory (able to walk independently).
• Wheelchair transport is not provided under this program.
• Members may use walkers, provided the walker can fold and fit in the volunteer’s vehicle and the member can manage getting in and out of the car with minimal assistance.
• Volunteers are not trained or expected to provide physical lifting or extensive mobility support.
Scheduling a Ride
1. Advance Notice Requirement:
• Members must request transportation at least one week (7 calendar days) prior to the appointment.
• Requests submitted with less notice will not be fulfilled.
2. Ride Availability:
• Transportation is not guaranteed. Rides are based entirely on volunteer availability.
• CHEER will do its best to accommodate each request, but members are encouraged to have a backup plan.
3. Distance Guidelines:
• Appointments must be within a 20-mile radius of the member’s home as a general guideline.
• Exceptions may be made for longer distances as long as the location remains within Sussex County and a willing member is available.
Code of Conduct & Expectations
• Members must be ready at the agreed pick-up time.
• Members must treat volunteers with courtesy and respect.
• No guests are permitted unless pre-approved. (Approved guests must meet eligibility requirements).
