Make A Call

To have a friend you have to be a friend. Be a Phone-Friend to a homebound senior who could use one.
Eligibility
• Adults 50+ with a Sussex County connection; ideally current CHEER members.
• Able to communicate by phone (landline or mobile).
• Provide informed consent to receive calls and to securely store minimal contact info.
Boundaries & Conduct (applies to all)
• Neutrality: No proselytizing, political advocacy, or fundraising asks during calls.
• Privacy: Share only what is asked and appropriate. No excessive personal details, no home addresses or financial info exchange. No photos/recordings.
• No Advice Zones: No medical, legal, or financial advice. Encourage participants to consult professionals, offer a warm hand off to CHEER staff as needed.
• Gifts & Money: No exchanging money, valuables, or gifts (except CHEER approved cards/notes). No errands or rides.
• Contact Channels: Use masked numbers; do not connect via personal social media.
• Language & Respect: Kind, plain language. No profanity, harassment, or discriminatory remarks.
• Safety First: If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call 911, then notify the Program Coordinator.
• Call Hours: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM (participants local time) unless a different time is mutually scheduled in writing.
• Frequency Options: Weekly or biweekly (set in the intake preferences).
• Missed Calls: Leave a neutral voicemail (see script) unless participant asked for “no voicemail.” Two additional attempts within 7 days max.
