Named as Hero of the Week is Velma Tilghman, a kitchen helper at CHEER's Georgetown Activity Center. Last week, the kitchen manager for the Georgetown and Roxana centers was on vacation for a few days. Velma knew that she ran a right kitchen and she didn't want to disappoint her supervisor. So Velma stepped up into the position and kept everyone straight. For her efforts, the rest of the staff jokingly presented her with a plastic toy meat cleaver.
Velma came to CHEER a few years ago as a worker from First State Community Action. We missed her help and smile during the COVID pandemic, but when an opening came in the CHEER kitchen in May of this year, Velma was first in line to apply, and CHEER was happy to offer her a place on the team.
Thanks Velma for your dedication and willingness to step forward to serve our seniors.
