Former CHEER Board Member Passes
CHEER is sad to report that longtime Board of Directors member Howard Carlton “Hobby” Stevenson, Sr., 87, of Milton passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. Mr. Stevenson retired from his position with CHEER last fall.
“CHEER will deeply miss Mr. Stevenson. His expertise and caring nature contributed greatly to the success of CHEER for decades. Our sincere condolences to his family upon their loss,” said Ken Bock, CHEER executive director.
Besides being involved with CHEER, Stevenson was a longtime member of Prospect AME Church and the last member of Prospect’s former male chorus in Georgetown. For the last 10 years, he attended Burton Chapel AME Church in Milton. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged.
He retired in 1986 from General Foods in Dover after 25 years of service as a lab tech, six years at the Omni Bank in Millsboro, and Midway Movie Theaters up until this passing.
Howard’s wife Alice died in 1999. He is survived by three children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
