CHEER's Beach Day is BACK!
Beach Day Is Back! After a three year hiatus, CHEER, Inc. is bringing back Senior Beach Day at Rehoboth Beach. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center and Boardwalk from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Beach Day had been produced for senior fun for 45 continuous years until 2016 when construction began to remodel the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, forcing its postponement. But now it’s back! Beach Day 2019 will be a memorial tribute to the late Eleanor Cain, the first Director of the Division of Services for Aging and Adults With Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD) from 1973 to 2001, who approached former CHEER Executive Director Arlene Littleton in 1985 about collaborating to produce a day of fun for seniors in Rehoboth Beach. Mrs. Cain passed away on April 8, but her vision and compassion for seniors lives on through Beach Day and the many other programs she instituted during her tenure with the DSAAPD. In the early 2000s, CHEER took over the production of Beach Day until it was forced to temporarily postpone it in 2016. This year’s event will feature Beach Day is Back!!! In 2017, CHEER began the Frontier Festival at its Community Center in Georgetown to address the void of a fall event for seniors. Because of the success of the Frontier Festival, it was decided not to discontinue it because of the return of Beach Day, but to reschedule it as a spring event in 2020. Frontier Festival will again be held on Friday, May 1, 2020. More details about that event will be forthcoming when finalized at the beginning of next year.
