Beach
Day 2010
Friday,
September 24 promises to be a great day for everyone in Rehoboth Beach.
That is the day we get to say farewell to Summer and welcome in the Fall
season.
Beach day is an annual event help raise funds supporting the many
programs that CHEER provides for the mature adults of Sussex County.
There is an all-day Health Expo sponsored by AstraZeneca
Pharmaceuticals held at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. With
dozens of exhibitors on hand, there are lots of give-aways and FREE
information available for your health awareness.
The CHEER Power Walk is a wonderful
way to take a nice stroll through beautiful Rehoboth Beach and Henlopen
Acres. The 2-mile walk will give you a chance to bond with nature and
enjoy some sun. The first 200 pre-registered walkers (donation $15) will
get an official Beach Day 2010 T-shirt. We also encourage you to get
friends and family members to sponsor your walk. All funds are used for
ongoing CHEER programs and services for Sussex County seniors.
Get your CHEER Power Walk registration form here.

Walkers proudly display senior center banners as they step off for the
CHEER Power Walk at Beach Day 2009. The first 200 pre-registered walkers
will receive an official Beach Day 2010 T-shirt.
For your
enjoyment, all-day entertainment is on tap at the Rehoboth Beach
Bandstand emceed by popular D.J. Sky Brady who brings the oldies you
loved yesterday for you to sing-along with and dance to helping make the
day a truly memorable experience.
For more information about Beach Day 2010, call 302-856-5187. The
beach will be there; the sun will be there; all we need is for you to be
there. |

Trap Pond Fall Festival
We dodged the bullet with
Earl. A lot of talk, but little substance. But the real program is going
to be at Trap Pond in Laurel, Friday, September 17. That's where you're
going to see some real fun and some great food. Expect to have a good
time.
For more information, call
your local CHEER Activity Center or call 302-856-5187 and ask for Don
Woods or Florence Mason. |

Volunteer of the Year
Two of
our wonderful homebound meal drivers, Dottie and Charlie Keller from the
CHEER at Long Neck Activity Center, are in the running for the Meals On
Wheels Volunteer of the Year award. And, as expected, CHEER is very
proud of them. The Kellers have been
volunteers with CHEER for nearly 10 years delivering meals in the Angola
and Millsboro areas.
Not only do they deliver meals, but they also do the little extras that
insure the homebound
people they see are ok.
The winner of this year's American Volunteer Contest will win MOWAA's
annual Jody Tepedino NIcholo Award and his/her nominating Meals On
Wheels program will be presented a check for $1,000. This is an
excellent fundraiser for CHEER and you can help. This national contest
will be decided by popular vote and your vote will count.
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Medicare/Medicaid
The
Delaware Senior Medicare Patrol Program provides public
information to encourage people who have Medicare to
carefully read their Medicare summary notices and ask
questions if they don't think it is correct. The program
also trains retirees to help other Medicare beneficiaries
get needed info when they suspect fraud, waste or abuse of
the Medicare program.
